JOIN US IN CELEBRATING THE ART OF SLOW IN THE LAKE DISTRICT

“The Slow movement — a global cultural shift that began in Italy in the 1980s — advocates for a more deliberate, considered approach to how we live, travel and experience the world."

THE CONCEPT

The Slow Edit is an emerging editorial platform dedicated to exploring and celebrating the art of Slow in the Lake District — and to the independent businesses and makers that shape its character.

Launching soon, it will bring together a collection of stories, conversations, and curated guides, highlighting distinctive places, thoughtfully designed spaces, and the people behind the businesses that make this unique National Park and UNESCO World Heritage Site so compelling.

I'm Teresa - writer, storyteller, content consultant and editor of The Slow Edit. A nomadic Lakes native who has travelled the world but who’s always returned home, I'm keen to help visitors and locals alike discover the joy of going Slow in the Lakes and beyond and to introduce them to the special people behind the businesses that define the region.

From hotels and spas, to restaurants serving local produce, to our talented artisan makers, craftspeople and designers, and to spaces that showcase Lakeland’s art and culture, the platform is rooted in a belief that it’s not just where you go - but how you experience it -  that leaves a lasting impression.

OUR AUDIENCE

The Slow Edit is built for discerning readers who choose carefully, spend thoughtfully and return to places they love. They are culturally engaged visitors, weekenders seeking moments of pause and peace and inquisitive wanderers who delight in discovering something new. They share a deep affinity with nature and a heartfelt connection to this landscape, including those who call the Lake District home.

Quality and authenticity matter to them. They appreciate the calm that comes with stepping off the treadmill to savour life's simple moments. For them — and for us — Slow is the new luxury.

WORKING TOGETHER

The Slow Edit brings together editorial rigour, genuine local knowledge and an instinct for an engaging story. Content spans long-form features, curated guides, and founder-led story telling with a focus on places, spaces, and experiences that reflect quality and a strong sense of identity.

I combine storytelling with clear, structured content to help businesses be both understood and discoverable online - across search and increasingly, through AI-led platforms. And unlike social media content, features are designed to have longevity, continuing to bring the right audience to your business over time.

I work with a small number of carefully selected brands, makers, and spaces through editorial features, founder stories, and collaborative partnerships - and I welcome conversations with hotels and stay hosts, cultural spaces, restaurants, experience providers, artisan makers and designers, local producers, and other businesses whose values align with a slower, more considered approach to guest experience and place.

If you'd like your business to be part of that conversation, I'd love to hear from you.

THE EDITOR

I’ve spent years exploring the Lake District - not just through its landscapes, but through the places, people, and experiences that sit at its heart.

The Slow Edit, inspired originally by the international Slow movement, grew from a desire to create a platform that reflects the richness of the Lake District; one that goes beyond the expected and highlights what makes this region truly distinctive.

There is real joy to be discovered for those seeking a more gentle pace to enjoy the pause that this landscape invites — by the waterside, in woodland, in the simple act of slowing down. From hidden hotels and off-the-beaten-track cottages, restorative spas and wellbeing spaces, through art and literature, lingering over an afternoon tea, or simply finding a bench to sit and admire a majestic view, this is a landscape shaped as much by people as by place.

As a writer, storyteller, and communications professional with deep roots here, I’m building The Slow Edit to champion those businesses and individuals - and to connect them with an audience that values quality, atmosphere, and experience. I hope you'll be part of that.

GET IN TOUCH

If you own, run or represent a hotel, restaurant, gallery, studio, maker business or experience in or around the Lake District and would like to explore how The Slow Edit might tell your story, I'd love to hear from you — whatever the size of your business.

I'm also open to conversations about editorial consultancy and bespoke content creation beyond the platform itself.
