JOIN US IN CELEBRATING THE ART OF SLOW IN THE LAKE DISTRICT

“The Slow movement — a global cultural shift that began in Italy in the 1980s — advocates for a more deliberate, considered approach to how we live, travel and experience the world."

THE CONCEPT

The Slow Edit is an emerging editorial platform dedicated to exploring and celebrating the art of Slow in the Lake District — and to the independent businesses and makers who embody a slower, more considered way of living.

Launching soon, and through a collection of stories, conversations, curated guides and more, The Slow Edit will shine a light on beautiful places, extraordinary spaces, meaningful experiences, and the faces behind the businesses that make this unique National Park and UNESCO World Heritage Site so special.

I'm Teresa — writer, storyteller, content consultant and curious observer, and editor of The Slow Edit. A nomadic Lakes native who has travelled the world but who’s always come home, I'm keen to help visitors and locals alike discover the quiet joy of going Slow in the Lakes and beyond. From hideaway hotels and restorative spas, to restaurants serving culinary delights and food produced by local artisans; from arts, crafts and passionate makers, to cosy book nooks and literary trails — and the countless experiences that build memories to last a lifetime — it's people who sit at the beating heart of The Slow Edit.

OUR AUDIENCE

The Slow Edit is built for discerning readers who choose carefully, spend thoughtfully and return to places they love. They are culturally engaged visitors, weekenders seeking moments of pause, and inquisitive wanderers who delight in discovery. They share a heartfelt affinity with nature and a deep connection to this landscape — including those who call the Lake District home.

They value quality and authenticity. They appreciate the calm that comes with stepping off the treadmill to savour life's simpler pleasures. For them — and for us — Slow is the new luxury.

WORKING TOGETHER

The Slow Edit brings together editorial rigour, genuine local knowledge and an instinct for a compelling story. Content spans well-crafted long-form features, observational essays, and carefully curated guides, alongside founder interviews and food and makers stories that highlight the best of Lakes-based businesses. And unlike social media content, it will continue working for you long after publication — bringing the right readers to your door, season after season.

I welcome conversations with hotels and stay hosts, cultural spaces, restaurants, experience providers, artisan makers and producers, and other businesses whose values align with a slower, more thoughtful approach to guest experience and place. I work with a small number of carefully selected brands, makers and spaces through editorial features, founder stories, and considered partnerships that are true to the Slow ethos.

If you'd like your business to be part of that conversation, I'd love to hear from you.

THE EDITOR

I've spent years exploring the quieter corners of this wonderful landscape. But since the international Slow movement captured my interest and I embarked on my own Slow Edit journey, my eyes have been opened further to the extraordinary richness of what this place can offer — and to how much of it still waits, unhurried, to be discovered by those seeking a gentler pace.

There is real joy to be discovered among hidden hotels and off-the-beaten-track cottages, in restorative spas and wellbeing spaces, through art and literature, lingering over an afternoon tea, or simply finding a bench to sit and admire a majestic view. And there is something quietly profound in the pause that this landscape invites — by the waterside, in woodland, in the simple act of slowing down.

The Slow Edit is a platform built on care: for this place, for those who shape meaningful experiences within it, and for the readers who want to know the Lake District not only through its landscapes, but through the people and moments that give those landscapes life.

As a writer, storyteller and communications professional with deep roots here, I'm genuinely excited to be building something that champions the businesses and makers who share that vision. I hope you'll join me.

GET IN TOUCH

I'm also open to conversations about editorial consultancy and bespoke content creation beyond the platform itself.
